Hello! I am Monica Golson and I am your child’s seventh grade math teacher! I am so excited to be share the joy and usefulness of mathematics with your student this year. Here is a snapshot of what your student will need and what we will be learning about this school year.

Textbook and Supplemental Materials
The textbook series that the seventh graders will be working out of this year is titled Connected Mathematics 3 Grade 7. Online resources will be provided at a later time to aid you and your child during work time at home. Also, a great deal of our lessons and assignments come from www.engageny.com. Engage New York is a website that has Common Core lessons for Language Arts and Mathematics for all grade levels.
Math Notebook
Your child’s main resource will be his/her math notebook that will go into a composition notebook. You will always be able to find notes, examples, and vocabulary. We will use it everyday. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS HIS/HER NOTEBOOK EVERYDAY IN CLASS. IT WILL BE THE MOST USEFUL RESOURCE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS FOR MATH THIS YEAR.
Math Text Blasts
Please sign up for math text blasts. You will receive important information about upcoming math events. It’s easy! Here are the steps:
1. Open your text messaging app and be prepared to send a message to (917) 746-3436 OR 81010
2. Type @pacea in the body of the text message
3. Follow any prompts the text may give you.
How will my child be graded in Mrs. Golson's class this year?
Here is the grading scale that is used at PACE Academy. I will list all of the assignments that I have in my class that will fall underneath each category.
Classwork- 30% Under classwork will be math notebooks, investigations and center assignments, and any other partner/group work.
Tests- 30%
Quizzes- 15% Homework quizzes will be given regularly to check understanding and reinforce the completion of homework.
Projects-10% Usually we have one math project per quarter.
Homework-10% Homework will be most often come from the Connected Mathematics text and EngageNY.
Participation-5% Lab activities and how often you participate in class.

Students will learn to:
- Explore the relationship between positive and negative rational numbers and use them in real-world contexts
- Develop a deeper understanding of polygons, angles, and the construction of shapes
- Use ratios, rates, and percents in real-life contexts
- Understand proportionality (part-to-part relationships and part-to-whole relationships)
- Explore basic probability concepts and build probability models
Materials to be brought by student
- Pencils ANY MATH WRITTEN IN INK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
- One composition notebook (This notebook must be kept for math only)!
- Calculator
- Colored Pencils or Markers
- Highlighters
- Glue Sticks
